Challenge Time

Challenge time typically includes the following elements: warm up, charge, and memory passage.

The "O.P." (Operating Procedures) manuals provide leaders with lesson plans for all club meetings during the club year for each club.

Warm Up

The message communicated during the Warm Up section of the club meeting is that this is a club, not a classroom. You may use a club cheer to get the clubbers on their feet and excited about the meeting. The presentation of the flags follow, with recitation of the pledges, the FrontLine motto, and the club verse.

Song time begins with the FrontLine theme song. Then a short time is spent working on the Hymn for the Heart, a classic hymn your clubbers will learn and review over five or six weeks. We have tried to choose hymns that go with the weekly themes during the time the clubbers are learning them. The OPs Manual offers suggestions each week for songs that go with the weekly theme.

Charge

Captains and officers may take turns giving the Charge. Some will certainly be hesitant to do so, but it affords an opportunity to grow.

Each Charge usually begins with an activity to attract the children's attention and excite their curiosity. It's fun, but to the point. The main part of the Charge is the Bible lesson and then application of the lesson is made to everyday life.

Memory Passage

After the Charge, the new memory passage is briefly introduced to the club. An officer reads through the passage with the clubbers, explains difficult phrases, and gives simple definitions for unfamiliar words. This is also a good time to work on proper pronunciation of Bible words.

The memory passage chosen for each week's lesson teaches the overall theme for that week. We chose passages rather than individual and scattered verses to give children a broader understanding of full sections of Scripture in their context.
